"Under the Kalahari Sun"

Under the Kalahari Sun is a deeply personal abstract work inspired by my travels through Africa and the raw, ancient beauty of the Kalahari landscape.

During my time there, I had the opportunity to visit ancient caves where markings left by some of the earliest humans still remain. Standing before them was awe-inspiring...a quiet reminder that the desire to create, communicate, and leave our mark has existed within us for thousands of years. That experience stayed with me long after returning home.

In this piece, I wanted to capture that feeling through layers of earthy ochres, sun-washed clay, dusty blush, deep berry, olive, and unexpected touches of turquoise. Primitive markings, organic forms, botanical elements, and gestural lines emerge and disappear throughout the canvas.

Under the Kalahari Sun is my interpretation of a landscape that felt both wild and timeless, a celebration of the earth, our connection to it, and the instinct to create that has connected humanity across generations.
